AB Tech REN Filtered Ethernet Cable

REN is Swedish for clean or pure. An honest name. The AB Tech REN isn't a cable in the conventional sense — it's a galvanic isolation device in an Ethernet form factor. Both signal and ground are completely isolated, which means conducted noise from your network infrastructure stops here and goes no further into your audio chain.

The Design

Most audiophile Ethernet cables address shielding and conductor quality while leaving the electrical connection between your network and your audio gear intact. The REN takes a different approach. Full galvanic isolation breaks the noise path entirely. What passes through is the data. What doesn't is everything riding along with it.

The housing is milled from two solid pieces of non-magnetic high-grade aluminum, designed to keep external interference out. The isolation circuitry inside is potted in vibration-damping material. Solid and well thought through.

Where It Fits

Between your network switch and your streamer is the obvious placement. Works with any streamer, server, or network-connected DAC with a standard RJ45 connection. Particularly effective when your streamer is on the same network segment as computers, NAS drives, or other noise-generating devices.

Press Recognition

We haven't seen major English-language press on the AB Tech REN. It circulates among serious listeners through word of mouth. Our own experience with it has been positive — the isolation is real and audible in resolving systems.
