The Sonic Tonic Power Cable By Tweek Geek
Mike, WTF?!
This unremarkable looking power cable goes against everything I have believed for the last 25 years. You see, I believed that it took ultra high purity metallurgy, proper shielding, esoteric dialectric materials, quantum physics and perhaps plant sacrifices to have a good sounding power cord. Honestly, that was my experience. Every time I replaced a stock power cord with an expensive aftermarket power cord, there was a significant improvement in sound quality. inexpensive power cables were always severely flawed or limited in their performance. To get everything; resolution, tonal balance, naturalness, flow, magic, one had to spend good money on a power cord to deliver all of those elements.
Disappointing Budget Cables
Over the years, there have been promises of "affordable" power cords that were supposedly "giant killers", but whenever I tried them, they never stood up to my expectations, or more expensive power cords in the long run.
The Sonic Tonic Power Cable by Tweek Geek has challenged my biases and beliefs on power cords for audio components.
For the first time in my listening experience, an inexpensive power cord has delivered Balance, resolution, presence and SOUL to the performance of my audio system. So much so that I have used this cord to replace most every cable in my audio system because it ultimately provided more joy, balance and less fatigue to the listening experience for me.
I am excited enough about this power cable that I I put the Tweek Geek name behind it. At the current offering price, I want everyone in the audio hobby to be able to afford this cable and be well on their way to even greater sound.
Details on the Power Cable
- 14 AWG stranded OFC copper conductors
- Molded connectors that offer a firm connection and safe operation
- "Green Dot" Hospital grade cord. If it's good enough for sensitive medical equipment, it's good enough for an audio component.
For the short 6 foot run, 14 gauge has very low resistance. Many of you probably have 14 awg wire in the circuit that powers your audio system. For everyone else who has dedicated circuits with high current carrying in wall wire. Terrific! 14 AWG wire over 6 feet has a DC resistance of 0.015 to 0.016 ohms. In other words, it will not have much of an impact on current delivery.
An Ideal Platform for Future Tweaks
The Sonic Tonic Power Cable is an excellent base for some forthcoming additional, and also inexpensive tweaks.
Pro Tips
- It takes about 48 hours to break in, and can sound pretty awful at first.
- Since the cable is unshielded, keep it away from speaker and signal cables.
Am I going to promise giant killing performance? Maybe. I think in terms of enjoyment per dollar spent this ranks pretty high. But I haven't tried every power cord in existence so I am only going to claim that this cord has replaced every aftermarket cord in my audio system and I am very happy with it.
Now The Power Pitch
One of the reasons I think this cable works so well in my system is because I think I have addressed a lot of power conditioning issues to an extensive degree. I have a dedicated circuit with 8 gauge wire running up to the breaker box in my audio room. In that breaker box I have a QSA Gold circuit breaker. the wall outlet that the breaker powers is QSA Gold. I also have a Bybee Stealth power conditioner plugged into that gold outlet using one of my Sonic Tonic Power Cables.
