Where the Needle Meets the frontRow
The phono stage is the most signal-sensitive link in any analog system. A moving magnet cartridge outputs a few millivolts. A moving coil outputs a fraction of that — sometimes less than a tenth of a millivolt. These vanishingly small signals travel through your phono cable before the phono stage amplifies and RIAA-equalizes them, meaning any noise, interference, or signal degradation the cable introduces gets amplified right along with the music.
It's the link in the chain where cable quality matters most and where, paradoxically, many listeners make the least considered choice.
The frontRow phono cable brings the full MORRE platform to this most critical connection — the same six-nines OCC copper, the same twinaxial shielded geometry, the same MORRE Deep Cryo II and EHVP post-production that define the frontRow line — configured specifically for the phono application, with a separate ground conductor and gold-plated tellurium carbon fiber phono connectors engineered for the secure, low-resistance contact that a cartridge signal demands.
Why the Phono Cable Deserves Serious Attention
The noise floor of a phono stage is determined not just by the circuit itself but by every element in the signal path before it. The cable from tonearm to phono stage is exposed to electromagnetic fields from the motor, the transformer, the power supply, and virtually every other component in the vicinity. Without proper shielding and geometry, these fields induce noise that buries the fine detail that analog playback is capable of delivering.
The frontRow phono cable addresses this with a shielded twinaxial geometry — four 29-strand conductors of 99.9999% pure OCC copper in a twin axial ribbon lay, wrapped in an OFC copper braid shield that actively deflects RF and EMI interference before it can reach the signal conductors. The dielectric combines virgin XLPE on signal conductors and PTFE Teflon at the ground, providing the lowest possible signal absorption and the most stable electrical environment for the cartridge's output.
The ground conductor is a critical detail. Unlike standard line-level interconnects, phono cables carry a separate chassis ground from the turntable to the phono stage — essential for eliminating hum and maintaining a clean reference. The frontRow phono's dedicated ground wire is an integral part of the design, not an afterthought.
The Same Post-Production Rigor
Every frontRow phono cable undergoes the full MORRE treatment after final assembly. MORRE Deep Cryo II refines the conductive lattice at the molecular level, reducing electron scatter and improving signal integrity throughout. EHVP — Audience's Extreme High Voltage Process — creates what Audience describes as predictable, efficient pathways through the crystalline grain structure of conductors and connection points, minimizing resistive energy loss in the signal path.
Each pair is carefully assessed for signal directionality before build and burned in through multiple MORRE post-production processes before shipping. The finished cable arrives ready to perform from the first listen.
Each pair ships with a certificate of quality personally signed by the master technician who built it — the same standard applied to every cable at the top of the frontRow line.
What It Sounds Like
The frontRow phono cable's contribution is most audible in the dimensions that matter most in analog playback: the noise floor between notes, the texture and weight of the midrange, the precision of imaging, and the ease with which fine low-level detail — the breath behind a vocal, the rosin on a bow, the decay of a piano note into the room — emerges from a quiet background.
With a lesser cable in this position, those details are present but partially obscured — there but not fully rendered. The frontRow phono cable removes that obscuration. What remains is a presentation that is more immediate, more naturally tonal, and more three-dimensional than what most listeners have heard from their analog front end, even after careful attention to every other element of the chain.
It is the natural complement to a reference-quality turntable and cartridge, and the logical phono cable for a system already running frontRow interconnects throughout.
