Markaudio MAOP 11 Full Range Driver
Markaudio MAOP 11 Full Range Driver
Priced per pair. New in box, never used. We're getting out of the speaker building business, and these deserve a better home than a shelf.
We built a pair of sealed bookshelf speakers with a previous set of MAOP 11s — very smooth, with surprisingly good dispersion. We added a Dayton ND20FA 3/4-inch dome tweeter on the rear of the enclosure with a first-order crossover at 8kHz. The rear-firing tweeter created a genuinely ambient, spacious presentation. Good experiment.
The MAOP Process
Magnetic Arc Oxidisation Process is done at extremely high temperature in a flux bath. The process converts the cone material into its crystalline oxide — not a coating deposited on top, but a chemical transformation of the substrate itself. The crystal grows both inward and outward, which gives the coating excellent adhesion and the microscopic void structure that combines the stiffness of metal with the natural sound of paper. Accuracy without the fatigue that pure metal cones can introduce.
The process is expensive and difficult. At least half of production is scrapped due to warping. What makes it through is individually measured in Markaudio's anechoic chamber and pair-matched to within 0.5% tolerance. The individual electrical and acoustic measurements are included with each pair.
Compatibility
The MAOP 11 is physically identical to the Alpair 11, Alpair 11MS, and Pluvia 11. It drops directly into cabinet kits designed for those drivers — the Frugel-Horn XL and Pensil designs specifically. If you have an enclosure designed for any of those, the MAOP 11 is a straightforward upgrade.
Press Recognition
Markaudio drivers have been reviewed by 6moons and discussed extensively in the DIY audio community. The MAOP series is the top of the Markaudio range and has a following in Japan and Asia where the drivers sell out quickly when available. English-language availability is limited.
