Need a Longer Cable? Add $400 for each 1/2 meter.
We love this cable because it sounds fantastic. But why does it sound so good? Well, we have some ideas.
First, it's UPOCC copper, a first rate conductor with very few crystalline boundaries. But what makes Hapa Copper different is the level of polish that the individual wires undergo before jacketing. Most manufacturers receive their wire already in the jacket. Be it PTFE or PVC, the cable underneath the jacketing is not smooth, in fact it is extremely rough. It's also subject to oxidation and marring if it's not jacketed. Now if you're familiar with skin effect, you know that the delicate mid and high frequencies usually conduct along the outer regions of the conductor. So polishing the conductor by hand eliminates surface imperfections down to a microscopic level. The signals riding on the surface of the conductor are now not subject to eddy currents, and other noise that can be generated by a less refined surface.
Once the level of polish is achieved, the cable is immediately jacketed and sealed from the elements. Not just any ordinary jacketing material, but Aerogel. Aerogel is a silica compound known for it's insulative and lightweight properties. It's 99.8% air, and as a dialectric, it's about as good as it gets for a solid. The problem with it however is it is not ordinarily flexible. In fact it is quite brittle. It took Hapa 2 years to develop a process whereby the Aerogel could be flexible enough. They now have a patent pending process that serves as an amazing cable dialectric.
As advanced and difficult to engineer as the Aerogel layer of Aero is, it is merely the kernel of a much more sophisticated design. Aero is substantially protected by the most incredible shielding solution Hapa Audio has created. Inside, Aero is protected by an impressive spectrum of shielding materials. First, a layer of pure carbon fiber serves as both shield and separator for signal wires to stand away from the metal based outer layers, next we add 4 layers of high quality foil copper, followed by 1 layer of silver plated copper braid, and one layer of braided mylar. That's right 7 separate layers of shielding guard Aero from electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference both local and long distance.
This shield offers an electro-magnetically silent environment for the signal to propagate without aberration. With all of these layers one might think the cable would be rendered stiff. Not so. A hallmark of Hapa Audio design is flexible cabling. Retaining a 1" bend radius Aero is exceptionally flexible in the world of digital cables.
The new Aero Cu USB incorporates a refinement to the polish of the copper data core. For the data portion of the cable, we are utilizing top quality Ultra pure continuous cast OHNO solid core copper wire which resides inside the aerogel dielectric. Hapa takes the finest wire made and hand polishes the surface to a mirror finish, reducing skin effect and eliminating surface impurities prior to building the Aerogel matrix that houses the data wires. The result is sultry smooth, highly detailed, and dare we say, a next level performance. The data leg of the cable is completely segregated from the common/ground and 5 volt portion of the cable. The 5 volt and common are handled by the gorgeous braided copper wrap that adorns Aero's exterior.
Hapa utilizes the only USB connector on the market that properly shields the USB terminations to a high enough degree to be included with Aero, the venerable Viborg USB A and B connectors. The solid cast alloy barrels allow the sensitive wire/connector interface to be both mechanically and electrically secure. 24 karat gold plated connectors offer a secure and stable interface with your gear.
