Most components are designed to do one thing well. The LUMIN P1 Mini was designed to do three things well — simultaneously, if needed — and to accommodate every source in a modern listening room while doing it.

It is a network music player with full LUMIN streaming capability. It is a high-quality DAC accepting USB, optical, coaxial, and HDMI inputs from external digital sources. It is a preamplifier with Leedh Processing lossless volume control, XLR and RCA analogue outputs, and a remote control included in the box. And its HDMI ARC input makes it the routing center for a two-channel TV system that bypasses an AV receiver entirely.

hifi.nl's Harro Tillema, after a week with the P1 Mini in his system, called it one of the better sounding music players he'd listened to in recent years — and one of the best performing network players in its price segment. 6moons' Frederic Beudot called it one of the most enjoyable one-box streaming solutions he'd heard in a long time. The LUMIN magic, as Passion for Sound put it, is difficult to explain: the sound is always so natural and engaging.

Five Inputs — Every Source, One System

The P1 Mini's five inputs accommodate virtually every source a modern stereo or two-channel home theatre system might include.

USB input — Industry-leading XMOS USB audio controller, supporting Native DSD512 and PCM 384 kHz. The primary connection for computers, music servers, and any USB audio source. Windows 10 and Mac OS compatible.

Analogue RCA input — A stereo analogue input with Leedh Processing volume control and passthrough function for home cinema integration. Custom naming functionality allows the input to be labeled for whatever is connected.

Optical (TOSLINK) and SPDIF (RCA) inputs — PCM up to 192 kHz/24-bit, DSD64 DoP. For CD players, older DACs being repurposed as converters, or any digital source with coaxial or optical output.

HDMI input with ARC — The input that distinguishes the P1 Mini from every other LUMIN. HDMI 2.0 compatible, supporting 4K video passthrough and 2.0 PCM audio. ARC (Audio Return Channel) allows the TV's audio — from streaming services, cable, gaming, or any other TV source — to return through the HDMI cable to the P1 Mini and on to your main speakers, with CEC volume and mute control from your TV remote. No AV receiver needed.

The Streaming Core — All of LUMIN's Strengths

The P1 Mini's network streaming capability draws on the same platform as LUMIN's more expensive players. Dual ESS SABRE32 ES9028Pro DAC chips in a fully balanced layout with a femto clock system and precision FPGA distribution — the same clocking technology that debuted in the flagship X1. Optical fibre network support via the SFP port provides complete galvanic isolation from the network, with the dual network ports allowing simultaneous connection of router and NAS. An internal toroidal linear power supply — a step above the switching supplies found in many competitors at this price — provides clean, stable power to both digital and analogue circuitry.

The result is a streaming DAC that, as Hi-Fi Class's Marek Dyba described it, makes digital files sound very analogue and natural — large, deep soundstage, tangible virtual sources, and excellent PRAT that brings music and emotions to the forefront. Precisely the LUMIN house sound, in a more versatile package.

Upsampling to DSD256 or PCM 384 kHz is available for all source files. Leedh Processing lossless volume control applies to all inputs. The included acrylic and zinc remote control — made in Austria — provides input switching, volume adjustment, and playlist navigation, and is fully Roon Ready.

Three Ways to Use It

As a streaming DAC — Connect via Ethernet or fibre, pair with a power amplifier and speakers, and you have a complete, high-quality streaming system with no additional components required. Add the LUMIN app, connect Roon, TIDAL, Qobuz, or Spotify, and you're done.

As a hi-fi hub — Connect every source in your system — turntable preamplifier via analogue input, CD player via optical or coaxial, computer via USB, streaming via network — and use the P1 Mini as the preamplifier that routes and controls all of it. One box replaces a separate preamplifier and DAC, with better integration and a simpler signal path.

As a two-channel TV system — Connect your TV to the P1 Mini via HDMI ARC. Every audio source your TV handles — streaming apps, cable, satellite, gaming — returns through the ARC connection to the P1 Mini and plays through your main speakers, with volume control from the TV remote. Add a power amplifier and speakers and you have a reference-quality two-channel home theatre without an AV receiver.
