LUMIN S2 Network Music Player

Streaming may be where most of your listening happens now, but it's rarely the only digital source in the room. There's the CD transport you still love, the TV, maybe a computer or a game console. The S2 is the LUMIN player built for that real-world system: flagship-grade streaming and conversion, plus digital inputs that let every source share its DAC.

The Design

The S2's DAC section comes straight from the X1 flagship: two ESS ES9038PRO chips in dual mono, one dedicated to each channel, for exceptional channel separation and a wide, stable soundstage. Dual femto clocks with FPGA distribution keep timing precise.

From there, a fully balanced analog stage feeds dual Lundahl LL7401 output transformers, the same transformers LUMIN uses in its top players. They give the S2 the natural, analog-sounding voice LUMIN owners prize.

Power comes from two X-Series toroidal transformers, shielded and mounted inside the chassis, with separate digital and analog circuits and low-noise linear regulation. Bringing that supply inside is what lets the S2 deliver X1 technology in one box.

The S2 also runs LUMIN's latest processor, with the headroom for upsampling to DSD256 or PCM 384kHz and for the new features LUMIN delivers through free firmware updates.

Digital Inputs

The S2 is the first LUMIN network player with digital inputs: one coaxial and one optical, each accepting PCM up to 24-bit/192kHz and DSD64 via DoP. Connect a CD or SACD transport, a television, a computer, or a streaming box, and each one plays through the S2's dual-mono DAC and Lundahl output stage. With Leedh Processing lossless volume control on board, the S2 can serve as the digital hub of your system, driving a power amplifier or active speakers directly.

How It Sounds

The S2 is built around the same DAC architecture as the X1, a player reviewers around the world praised for its natural, musical presentation and the sense of real musicians in a real space. The Lundahl output transformers carry that character forward, with the clarity of a modern DAC and the warmth and flow of a great analog source.
