The Sutherland TZ Vibe is a transimpedance phono preamplifier. It is designed exclusively for Moving Coil (MC) phono cartridges and utilizes current-amplification technology to eliminate traditional cartridge loading adjustments.
Core Technology & Concept
- Design Splicing: The TZ Vibe combines the transimpedance (current-input) front stage from Sutherland's premium Little Loco Mk2 with the chassis layout and secondary gain stage of the entry-level KC Vibe.
- Transimpedance (Current) Input: Traditional phono stages amplify the cartridge's voltage output and require manual resistance adjustments (loading). The TZ Vibe presents a zero-ohm "virtual short" to the cartridge, directly amplifying the current instead.
- Zero Loading Adjustments: Because it reads current rather than voltage, it completely eliminates the need to fuss with or calculate cartridge loading values.
Hardware Specifications
- Cartridge Compatibility: Strictly compatible with Moving Coil (MC) cartridges—ideally low-output models. It is completely incompatible with Moving Magnet (MM), Moving Iron (MI), or Step-Up Transformers (SUTs).
- No Cable Restrictions: Unlike earlier transimpedance designs that required balanced tonearm cabling, the TZ Vibe uses standard single-ended RCA connections and grounds the input shell.
- Adjustable Gain: It comes factory-preset to Medium Gain. Users can manually reposition internal board shunts to shift the output signal up or down by 6dB (Low, Medium, High settings).
- Power & Build: Employs an external 48V power supply specifically matched to the unit to minimize noise interference. It weighs roughly 6 lbs with dimensions of 9" W x 11" D x 2" H.
