The Premier S/PDIF Connection
The Audience Au24 SX BNC brings the full Au24 SX platform to this superior S/PDIF implementation: six-nines OCC copper, CRYO² dual-stage cryogenic treatment, low-mass directional construction, and a true 75-ohm design maintained throughout the cable's geometry. It is the natural digital complement to an Au24 SX analog signal chain for any system where the transport and DAC both provide BNC S/PDIF connections.
Why S/PDIF BNC — and Why the Cable Still Matters
The S/PDIF interface carries not just data but a self-clocked signal where timing is embedded in the waveform itself. Cable impedance matching, reflections, and noise all affect the integrity of that timing — and timing errors translate directly into jitter at the DAC input, which manifests as a subtle but persistent blurring of imaging, a slight hardening of transients, and a loss of the natural flow that well-mastered digital recordings are capable of delivering.
The BNC connector's consistent 75-ohm impedance and secure mechanical connection make it the professional broadcast standard for S/PDIF precisely because it minimizes these problems at the termination point — where the greatest proportion of reflections originate in a poorly matched system. Paired with the Au24 SX's 75-ohm cable geometry and six-nines OCC copper conductor, the BNC implementation delivers the most technically correct S/PDIF connection available outside of AES/EBU.
The Au24 SX Platform
Six-nines OCC copper — 99.9999% pure. At this level of purity, grain boundary artifacts and resistive losses are reduced to near-zero, preserving the timing accuracy embedded in the S/PDIF waveform with maximum fidelity from output to input.
CRYO² — dual-stage cryogenic treatment. Each component is cryogenically treated individually, then the fully assembled cable undergoes a second cryogenic treatment. This two-stage process refines the crystalline structure of conductors, insulation, and connectors at the molecular level — improving signal integrity and long-term stability throughout the cable.
True 75-ohm design. The Au24 SX BNC maintains 75-ohm impedance throughout its geometry, minimizing reflections and preserving the integrity of the S/PDIF signal from end to end.
Low-mass directional construction. Minimal jacketing, no excess mass, no oversized connectors. The gold arrow indicates correct signal flow direction.
What to Expect
Lower jitter, quieter noise floor, greater resolution of low-level detail, more stable and three-dimensional imaging, and a more natural, flowing presentation from the DAC — consistent with what the Au24 SX line delivers throughout. The improvement is most audible relative to a stock or budget digital cable, where impedance mismatches and noise pickup are most severe.
The Au24 SX BNC is the natural digital complement to Au24 SX analog interconnects downstream — bringing the same material quality and design philosophy to the digital link and completing the coherence of a full Au24 SX loom.
BNC or RCA — Choosing the Right Termination
Au24 SX BNC (this cable): Choose BNC if both your transport and DAC provide BNC S/PDIF connections. The BNC's consistent 75-ohm impedance and secure locking connection provide the most technically correct S/PDIF implementation.
Au24 SX RCA: Choose RCA S/PDIF if your equipment uses RCA connections for digital output and input. The RCA version brings the same Au24 SX material quality and construction, with RCA terminations appropriate for standard S/PDIF equipment.
Au24 SX AES/EBU: If your transport and DAC both have AES/EBU XLR digital connections, the balanced 110-ohm AES/EBU interface provides additional noise rejection advantages over S/PDIF — and the Au24 SX AES/EBU is the superior choice.
