Like Stein Harmonizers & Heartsound Holostages, this device that looks like a simple USB thumb drive yet builds on what those products do for the sound field in your room. If you own any of those wonderful products, you’ll know what I mean.

I have multiple Stein & Heartsound devices conditioning my listening space, yet somehow Chronos adds even more immediacy by creating a realistic holographic soundstage that places the listener even closer to the performance in a tactile way.

Personally, when I listen to music with Chronos in the room, I can easily imagine myself right there on stage with the performers. This device also enhances vocals by bringing them forward. It does this whether it’s unplugged resting on a mains cable connector or plugged into a recommended USB power supply anywhere in the room. For me, Chronos added significantly more depth & I noticed this immediately,

However, it should not be plugged into a computer or the tech inside will be destroyed.

Yes, it’s a mystery how this thing works, but it does, and very convincingly. How could a USB stick pull this off by its mere presence in the room? Beats the heck out of me, but I did not even finish my trial before I ordered one for myself from Mike at Tweek Geek. I was that impressed.

Am I a fool for spending $2500 on this thing? Absolutely! But the improvements Chronos brings were such an unexpected surprise that I now consider the device indispensable.

I have been auditioning the Nirvana Chronos for several weeks. Mike at Tweek Geek was kind enough to loan one to me. The effect it has on my system was immediate & undeniable.

If I were to take a stab at what it adds to the listening experience, imagine for a moment a shadow box or even a greeting card that when opened, reveals 2D objects that unfold & pop up. Now imagine the same shadow box or greeting card that contains identical objects unfolding & popping up but, in a more realistic 3D fashion. So much for my rudimentary visual analogy. In terms of soundstage, performers, instruments & room, all take on a 3D quality while clearly outlined within the stereo image. Their location on stage takes on more precise placement quality as well. For example, vocals are represented in a forward fashion. Not “in your lap” forward, but definitely out in front of the other performers.

To sum up my initial findings, don’t be fooled by its unassuming appearance as a USB thumb drive. This pricey ($2500!) little gizmo is the real deal. Simply put, Chronos clearly elevates everything good about your system. I have found it to be effective unplugged as well as plugged into the recommended USB power supply. It was also highly effective when placed on top of the power cord connector that feeds my balanced mains supply from the wall. A tiny dab of blu-tak will secure Chronos to the plug. Is it too pricey? Absolutely! However, you are free to audition through Tweek Geek at no charge to help determine whether this product is for you. If you’re like me, however, you will find Chronos indispensable.

It was a leap of faith , but so very happy that I did it !
When I read all the info , I still could not believe it .
But the chats with Michael gave the last push . So I bought it ( I did not tell my wife - Because I knew that she would think that I was crazy.
But when the Chronos arrived and unpacked I thought that I was “ ripped” How could this small usb stick improve the soundquality !!

But almost instantly the difference was clear . This was the sound that I was looking for all my life . I know that this sounds if they are paying me for this review. But that is not true . I am just a very happy music lover .

Amazing device

We're going to be direct with you: this is not a product for everyone, and it's not a product for every system. If this kind of thing bothers you on principle, move on and we respect that. What It Is

The Chronos looks exactly like a USB thumb drive. That is physically what it is. But that is explicitly not how it is used. Nirvana states clearly: do not plug this into a USB data port on a computer or device that reads thumb drives. Doing so will destroy its capability and purpose.

The Chronos works on electronic signals and acoustic wave vibrations simultaneously. It is not limited by equipment type, music type, or system configuration. Plug it into a USB power port — not a data port — or leave it unpowered. Either way, it integrates with the system in a direct way that Nirvana describes as affecting the signal production and the room acoustics together.

If you choose to power it: the recommended charger is the Anker GaN Prime. Nirvana recommends experimenting with both powered and unpowered operation — they don't claim one is universally better.

What We've Heard

Clearer. Purer. More powerful. Image and soundstage density improve in a way that is perceptible to any listener paying attention, not just someone expecting to hear something. The low-frequency quality improves. These are consistent reports from people who approached it skeptically, including ourselves.

Is it worth $2,500? For a system that is already dialed in — room, power, cables, all addressed — and for a listener who has eliminated all the conventional variables, the Chronos addresses something that conventional approaches don't reach. That's a narrow qualifier. We mean it as one.
