Grand Activation Extreme SC-2000 Speaker Cables

Speaker cable is where many systems stop short, because the good ones cost as much as a component. Grand Activation's SC-2000 was named a joint winner in the Hi-Fi+ Awards 2025 for loudspeaker cables, earned a place as Stereo Times reviewer Richard Doron's new reference, and in publisher Clement Perry's opinion is the best cable he's heard under $5,000.

A cable that leaves the signal alone and lets the music through.

The Design

Grand Activation (GA) is a Bristol, England company that introduced its Metal Molecular Activation Technology (MMAT) in 2021 and applies it to every product it makes. GA says MMAT increases the number of electrons flowing per second through each conductor, improving dynamic range and lowering background noise. GA's case rests on listening, and so does ours. QSA, whose treatments we carry throughout our catalog, acknowledges that it treats Grand Activation's cables as well.

According to Hi-Fi+, the SC-2000 uses two conductors per side, each made of eight strands of 0.5 mm² high-purity oxygen-free copper, under a cotton-wrapped aluminum foil shield. Each cable is insulated with Teflon and finished in a braided PET and nylon sheath. It's the first loudspeaker cable from a company that already makes power cords, fuses, and wall sockets. The standard length is 2.5m, with gold-plated spades at the speaker end and banana plugs at the amplifier end.

How It Sounds

Hi-Fi+'s Alan Sircom found a cable that leaves little footprint on the sound, with a very open and extended top end, a clean and inviting midrange, and an honest, deep bass, summed up by two words: detail and nuance. He singled out the powerful bass and silky, extended treble, and a very slight bloom in the lower midrange that adds richness to piano and voices. Richard Doron of Stereo Times heard a more immersive soundstage, more texture and ebb and flow in the music, and a more transparent, cleaner sound against a darker background, and wrote that they can go head-to-head with cables costing two or three times as much.

Plan for burn-in. Sircom advises 100 hours or more, and Doron's review period ran about a week.

Where It Fits

Choose it when you're ready to move beyond an entry-level speaker cable without stepping up to a five-figure price. Sircom's balanced, nuanced presentation suits systems that already have pace and drive, and he noted that cables built for rhythmic attack are quicker, a limitation Hi-Fi+ called minor for most listeners. The cables carry no directional markings, so you can attach them whichever way suits your system. We're Grand Activation's US distributor, so we can help you choose a length.

Press Recognition

  • Hi-Fi+ Awards 2025: joint winner, Loudspeaker Cables (reproduced from Hi-Fi+ Issue 238). The award write-up highlights Sircom's finding that the SC-2000 tries hard not to tamper with the signal and gets out of the way of the music.
  • Hi-Fi+, Issue 228 (February 2024), Alan Sircom, reviewing the SC-2000. Sircom described a cable that tries hard not to tamper with the signal and gets out of the music's way, with strengths in detail, nuance, powerful bass, and a silky, extended treble.
  • Stereo Times, Richard Doron (January 2026), reviewing the SC-2000. Doron called them a much-needed upgrade and his new reference, and noted that GA products have been named Stereo Times Most Wanted two years running. Read the review at Stereo Times
