SteinMusic Q5 Quantum Mains Conditioner, a plug-in device that SteinMusic says gives music more headroom and freedom by acting directly on the mains voltage. It combines electronic circuitry, power purification, quantum physics, and crystal technology, with a very high-Q parallel filter showing only about 3 dB of attenuation at 10 MHz. Use at least two, one in a power strip and one elsewhere in the room. US plug.

SteinMusic Q5 Quantum Mains Conditioner

Everything your system plays starts with the AC from your wall. The Q5 plugs into that supply and, according to SteinMusic, gives the music more headroom and freedom. It takes one outlet, there's nothing to wire in, and you can add more as you listen.

Tune the mains, and the music gets room to breathe.

The Design

SteinMusic calls the Q5 a Mains Quantum Organizer, a combination of electronic circuitry, power purification, quantum physics, and crystal technology. SteinMusic says these parts work together to influence the power grid, the foundation of all the music a good audio system can reproduce from a recording.

The electronics carry the benefits of SteinMusic's quantum physics and crystal technology onto the mains. They include a classical parallel filter, and SteinMusic explains why it built this one differently. Filters can remove high frequencies and always have dielectric losses that take energy from the music. SteinMusic says that can help a system that sounds too bright, while a balanced system can lose subtleties and nuances. The goal is not to add a component that compensates for errors elsewhere, so SteinMusic designed a filter with a very high Q factor that shows only about 3 dB of attenuation at 10 MHz, which keeps losses extremely low. The rest of the circuit treats both half-waves of the mains equally, using symmetrical pn junctions. SteinMusic also uses electrically activated crystals with a very uniform atomic lattice, which it says, together with its quantum physical approach, can influence the mains in a positive way.

How to Use It

SteinMusic recommends at least two Q5s in an audio system: one in the power strip or after the power conditioner, and another in a free outlet elsewhere in the listening room. Some customers use many more, spread throughout their homes, and report significant positive effects.

Where It Fits

The Q5 suits systems where you want to work on the power itself without adding a filter in the signal path. It pairs naturally with SteinMusic's PowerBar and works with any power strip or outlet. We're happy to help you decide how many to start with and where to plug them in.

Press Recognition

  • HiFiReport, Gordon Lyn, on the Q5: "Its effects are readily apparent, discernible to anyone, not just those with 'golden ears'."
