Unison Research Simply 845

The Simply 845 sits at the top of Unison Research's tube integrated amplifiers, second only to the historic Absolute 845. Like the Absolute 845, it uses the famous directly heated 845 triodes as its power tubes, which Unison Research describes as tubes of remarkable longevity and extraordinary sound quality. It's a single-ended Class A amplifier, and it fits the whole preamp and power stage into one chassis.

The Design

Unison Research points to the advantage of an integrated amplifier: putting preamplification and power in a single chassis removes the interconnect cables between them, which it describes as costly and never truly neutral in reproducing sound. In the renewed Simply 845, the size was reduced, and all the input and output connectors, new in type and gold-plated, now sit on the rear panel.

The amplifier uses two selected 845 power tubes in a single-ended pure Class A output stage, with four selected ECC82/12AU7 tubes ahead of them. Unison Research lists its maximum output as 23 W, with a feedback level of 14 dB, an output impedance of 6 ohms, and a bandwidth of 20 Hz to 50 kHz at +0 dB, and -1 dB at 12 W.

Connections

There are four line-level inputs, a tape output, and a stereo RCA subwoofer output.
