Vicoustic VicPattern Ultra Wavewood MKII

One panel that calms the room and keeps it alive.

Most rooms need two kinds of treatment. Absorption clears up harsh reflections; diffusion keeps the space from sounding flat and lifeless. Usually that means two different products and a lot of planning about where each one goes. The VicPattern Ultra Wavewood MKII does both from a single panel, and it looks like fine woodwork while it does it.

Vicoustic calls the Wavewood its flagship design, and it's easy to see why. The wave of wood-finish slats across the face scatters sound back into the room, while the deep slots between them let sound through to an absorbing core behind. The balance between those two areas is the point: the room gets clearer, and it stays bright and open.

Design

Vicoustic developed the Wavewood around its Absorption and Reflection Control System (ARCS), research into the ideal ratio of absorbing area to reflecting surface on a single panel. The slats are premium MDF with a scratch-resistant high-pressure laminate (HPL) face, finished on the sides as well.

The MKII's big step is inside. The VicPET Wool core, made from recycled plastic, is now a full 38mm thick. That extra depth extends absorption down into the low and low-mid frequencies compared with the previous generation, which means more control over the warm, muddy range that thin panels leave untouched. The panel is polyurethane-free and recyclable.

The core is removable, which opens up creative options such as integrating lighting behind the face.

Black Matte, White Matte, and Natural Oak ship quickly; Brown Oak, Dark Walnut, Natural Walnut, and Locarno Cherry are made to order in about 12 weeks.

What You'll Hear

With an NRC of 0.8, the Wavewood MKII takes real control of first reflections and excess reverberation: vocals focus, the stereo image firms up, and the room stops adding glare. At the same time, the reflective slats return some of that energy as gentle, scattered ambience, so the room keeps its sense of life and space. The result is the balanced sound most listeners are after, from one product.

Where to Use Them

  • Side walls at the first reflection points, where the hybrid design clears up the image while keeping the room lively.
  • The wall behind the speakers, as a handsome feature wall.
  • The ceiling, mounted on the VicFix Suspension Profile.
  • Corners, angled with VicFix Corner Plus to work as a semi bass trap.
  • Pair with the Wavewood Diffuser Ultra MKII for extra diffusion on the rear wall in a matching look, or with the VicPattern Ultra Beat XL for larger absorbing areas.

Each box of 3 covers about 11.4 square feet.

Installation

VicFix Mini wall mounts come in the box. The VicFix J Profile rail makes long runs easy to align, VicFix Corner Plus handles corners, and the VicFix Suspension Profile 1190 hangs panels from the ceiling (all sold separately). Panels ship in reinforced packaging; wear gloves when unboxing, as the laminate edges are crisp.

Recognition

The Wavewood is Vicoustic's signature panel and appears throughout its installation gallery, from large dedicated hi-fi rooms and home cinemas to professional mixing rooms, including a Steinberg Cubase studio treated with VicPattern Wavewood and Multifuser Wood panels.
